Plan Ahead, Assess Funding Opportunities.

A successful grant application is a team effort.

Plan to Apply

Plan ahead, assess funding opportunities, and take other early steps to prepare a solid grant application. Find guidance and advice on how to work with your application, assess resources and teammates, identify a funding opportunity, check application policies, and lay out your timeline.

  • You share your goal: education, research, creative work, home improvement, disaster recovery, business R&D, etc.
  • We map the correct pathway:
    • True individual awards: fellowships, scholarships, artist grants, some research/travel awards.
    • Pass-through or third-party: funding you access via a college, fiscal sponsor, nonprofit, or local government program.
    • Not a grant but relevant: low-interest loans, tax credits, rebates, or benefits.
  • Outcome: A realistic options brief with likely routes, warnings about ineligible paths, and next steps.
  • If a true individual grant is viable:
    • We identify programs, timelines, portals (e.g., Grants.gov filters, NEA/NEH fellowships, NIH/NSF fellowships, Fulbright, state arts councils), and selection criteria.
  • If an intermediary is required:
    • We help you align with an eligible organization:
      • Enroll or affiliate with a university for research fellowships.
      • Use a fiscal sponsor (a 501(c)(3) that receives and manages funds for your project).
      • Partner with a local nonprofit or municipality to include your role in a larger grant.
  • If a small business route fits better:
    • We evaluate SBIR/STTR (for founders with a registered business) and outline the steps to form/register an entity if you choose that path.
  • We outline exactly what you’ll need:
    • Project summary, portfolio/CV/resume, letters/references, budget, timeline, work samples (for arts), research plan (for fellowships), proof of eligibility (citizenship/residency, student status), and any compliance items.
  • We set milestones backward from due dates and clarify who does what:
    • You: content, references, signatures, transcripts/work samples.
    • Us: program fit check, application strategy, narrative coaching/editing, budget narrative guidance, compliance checklist.
  • Narrative coaching: We help you tell a clear, evidence-based story aligned to the program’s rubric.
  • Materials: We help craft statements of purpose, project descriptions, work plans, bios, and short answers; assemble work samples; and create a simple budget and justification.
  • Compliance: We ensure formatting, page limits, file names, and required attachments meet the rules.
  • Portal prep: We help you create or verify portal accounts (some programs use agency portals; many use custom systems or institutional platforms).
  • Submission: We double-check completeness and submit on time (or guide you if the program requires applicant-only submission).
  • Post-submission: We track confirmations, prepare for interviews or additional requests, and plan for re-application if needed.

What we do vs. what you do

  • We provide: Program discovery, eligibility guidance, strategy, editing/coaching, compliance checks, scheduling, and submission support where permissible.
  • You provide: Authentic content, credentials, references, signatures, and timely reviews. You make final representations; we will not fabricate documents or misstate eligibility.
